Disco Elysium Get the Body Down: How to Complete the Task

Investigating the murder scene behind the Whirling-in-Rags is one of the earliest major objectives players encounter in Disco Elysium. The victim remains suspended from a tree in the backyard, making a proper forensic examination impossible until you bring it down. Successfully retrieving the corpse allows Lieutenant Kim Kitsuragi to proceed with the formal autopsy and unlocks crucial narrative leads.

Shooting Down the Corpse with a Firearm

The most direct approach to lowering the victim involves using Kim Kitsuragi's service weapon. After attempting to inspect the hanging victim, you can ask Kim to shoot the belt holding the body. If Kim misses his shot, your character can request to take the shot instead, requiring a Hand/Eye Coordination skill check.

Passing this skill check brings the body crashing down immediately and boosts your relationship with Kim. However, missing the shot causes noise and forces you to pursue alternative options to complete the task. Players focusing on Motorics traits generally have an easier time succeeding with this method.

Enlisting the Aid of Measurehead

If marksmanship fails, players can seek physical assistance from Measurehead, the massive guard stationed at the harbor gates. Securing his cooperation requires convincing him through strength, ideology, or union authority. You can attempt a difficult Physical Instrument skill check to overpower him in physical combat.

Alternatively, players can listen to his philosophical lectures to internalize the Advanced Race Theory thought in their Thought Cabinet. Once researched, talking to Measurehead again will convince him to walk over and bring the body down for you. You can also speak directly with Evrart Claire inside the harbor to order Measurehead to help.

Performing the Autopsy and Next Steps

Once the body rests on the ground, you and Kim can begin the thorough forensic examination. Inspecting the corpse reveals key details about the cause of death, hidden items, and armor components. Completing the autopsy opens up new quest lines involving the harbor workers and local residents.

After concluding the investigation, you can instruct Kim to send the corpse away for official processing. Note that sending the body away will cause Kim to briefly leave your party for the rest of the evening. Planning the timing of this task ensures you do not miss out on partner dialogue during other active cases.
